CITY OF BROOKSVILLE RED-LIGHT CAMERA TRAFFIC SAFETY PROGRAM BEGINS WITH A WARNING PERIOD

The City of Brooksville has announced that its red light safety cameras will begin capturing still images and video of red-light running violators at designated intersections starting on March 30, 2009.

The program begins with a 30-day warning period.  During the warning period, a warning notice will be issued to the vehicle’s registered owner without an attached fine. However, at the completion of the warning period, citations will be issued.  As each camera is installed and placed on-line, the 30-day warning period will begin.  Red Light Safety Cameras are currently approved for enforcement at the following City intersections:

  • Northbound SR-50/Cobb Road at SR-50A/West Jefferson Street
  • Southbound Cobb Road. at SR-50A/West Jefferson Street
  • Northbound US-41/Broad Street  at West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard  (start date March 30th )
  • Northbound US-41/Broad Street at SR-50/Cortez Boulevard
  • Northbound US-41/Broad Street at Wiscon Road

A Media Release will be provided to the public as each Red Light Safety Camera is installed and begins enforcement.   Additionally, updated information on the cameras will be posted on the City’s website (www.cityofbrooksville.us)

The warning period will give residents an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the public safety goals of our red-light program before actual citations are issued.  Warning signs alerting drivers to the red-light cameras are posted on the street/road just prior to the intersection where cameras are in place.  After the warning period is complete, vehicles that run through red lights at the intersections will be issued a citation and fine.

The cameras will operate seven (7) days a week and 24-hours a day.  They will capture both still and video images of each vehicle running through the intersection(s) when the traffic light is red.

The City of Brooksville program is administered by American Traffic Solutions, Inc. (ATS), completely separate and apart from the traffic signals/red lights and their maintenance.  Each violation will be reviewed by the Brooksville Police Department for citation issuance.
